Trainers
Evan and Cassie Black own and operate E Bar C Performance Horses in Douglass, KS. They work as a team, teaching riders and training horses using classical methods. Cassie earned her USDF Bronze medal on a self-trained Thoroughbred and is working toward her Silver Medal on her Morgan horse. She enjoys working with riders to help improve their non-traditional horses in dressage and western dressage as well as promoting good overall horsemanship, so her student’s horses are safe, reliable mounts. In addition to starting young horses under saddle, Evan is currently preparing horses for competition in western dressage as well as ranch versatility events. Both currently ride with Laurie Hedlund and Buck Brannaman for continuing education.

Elaine Cornell became a member of USDF in the second year it was in existence, in the mid seventies. She has competed for many years, through Prix St Georges, but in recent years has concentrated more on teaching riders and breeding and training horses. She and her husband, Ed, own Benediction Farm, and Elaine has been teaching for 36 years. She has intensively studied rider biomechanics and emphasizes the seat, believing that the horse can only go as well as the rider uses her body. She has worked with numerous instructors over the years, most notably Lowell Boomer and Carol Lavell. Currently, she works with Amy Larson at every opportunity. She works with all levels of riders and has well trained lesson horses as well as letting students ride her own horses if they are more advanced.

Liz Jaax operates both a lesson program and a training program out of Capall Baile stable in southeast Wichita, KS. She has recently purchased her own facility, and, once improvements are made, she will move her operation to her own property. Liz's mounted lesson programs include horsemanship lessons, which teach safety from the basics of leading a horse to extensive knowledge of nutrition and conditioning. Liz also offers sales, competition and training packages to suit all owners' needs. In all, her programs are tailored toward creating a safe learning environment that is based on small steps to achieve big results.

Patricia Kaufman is a local instructor who has earned both her Bronze and Silver rider medals. She has ridden, trained and competed two horses up through Intermediate I. She has competed at Prix St George with her American Warmblood. She continues her own education by bringing in and hosting clinics currently with Laurie Hedlund.

Susan Lang is the current vice President of Kansas Dressage and Eventing Association and is also an L-Graduate schooling show judge and a USEF Dressage “r” Technical Delegate. She also is an “R” Western Dressage judge and is also licensed with AQHA as a western dressage judge. She competed her Dutch gelding at Fourth Level, and plans to compete again in both Western and traditional dressage. Susan has worked with S judges Paula Lacy, Debbie Riehl-Rodriguez and Thomas Poulin, and in the past worked with USDF Certified instructors Lena Wedemark (FL) and Laurie Hedlund (OK). Susan focuses making the rider aware of how the horse is positively affected by correct rider position, thereby creating a better-balanced horse that is confident in his work.

Marie Maloney grew up riding in 4-H and when she was 9 years old, she won an AQHA colt in a 4-H sponsored essay contest and rode him for 27 years, showing him in all of the 4-H events. When Marie was 30 and Blaze was 20 they started their English careers and competed up to Novice level in eventing. She then bought an Appendix Quarter horse off the track and competed him up to Preliminary Level and showed at Events throughout the Mid West as well as Regional Championships. Marie currently owns and operates Capall Baile Stables, a boarding facility in Wichita, Kansas and now focuses on dressage. Marie earned her USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medals on her late Trakhner, Lazulite, who she trained herself. Marie is a USEF “R” Western Dressage judge, an AQHA western dressage judge, as well as a USDF “L-Graduate, with Distinction. She also received her USEF “r” judge license and has been judging USEF shows with the intent of entering the “R” judge training program. Marie has a passion for encouraging youth to participate in dressage and further their knowledge and understanding of the sport.

Gail Matheus is an USDF L* judge (with distinction) and a “R” Western Dressage judge with the USEF and AQHA. Rebecca (Bekki) Moore is a British Horse Society Assistant Instructor and has been actively teaching for almost 20 years. She has worked with a member of the Dutch Olympic Eventing team. Bekki is the KDEA liaison for the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) and has competed her Off Track Thoroughbred (OTTB). She has also earned her USDF Bronze medal. She teaches dressage, jumping, and cavaletti work.

Haley Patty is the trainer/barn manager at the Holsteiner breeding facility, Meadowcreek Farm in Towanda, KS. She has worked there for over 9 years starting and training young horses to jump and getting them ready for shows. Once the horse is under saddle, focus is put on the flat work to properly develop the necessary muscles needed for jumping. She puts the horses’ well-being first to develop a confident horse from the ground up, because a confident horse is necessary for jumping and showing. Haley earned her USDF Bronze and Silver medals on a horse she trained herself, and is currently working toward her Gold Medal. Meadowcreek is now accepting a limited number of boarders and has recently updated their amenities to include tackrooms and bathrooms.

Rhi Schulte- Rhi is the owner and operator of Rhi Schulte Eventing which is based out of South Central Kansas. RRE is a full service equine business providing experience and education to both horse and rider of all levels. Rhi spent her early years working at Monmouth Park Racetrack and under 4* riders Sinead Halpin & Kadi Eykamp. She is now able to use that knowledge to specialize in the retraining of off track thoroughbreds into their second careers of eventing.

Jackie Schwartz has spent time learning many disciplines in both english and western, and uses methods from all in her teaching. She has a specialty with young, or problem horses. Competing in eventing and dressage on horses of her own, and for other people, she has the experience of being on many kinds of horses. She has focused the last several years on improving her dressage, learning from many accomplished trainers and clinicians, has earned her USDF Bronze medal, and is part way to her Silver Medal. Jackie is competing a couple of her own OTTBs currently at the upper levels of dressage and eventing, and continuously has young ones coming up. She has a good understanding for the why's and how’s of how a horse learns and gains confidence in themselves. She believes that no matter what level you, or your horse is, there is always more to be learned in the art of riding horses.

John Staples' teaching focuses on the sport of eventing, and he is a Level III US Eventing Association Instructor. John has students competing in eventing from Starter through Advanced, and he teaches clinics throughout the US. John is also a cross country course designer and builder, and has helped develop the Feather Creek Horse Trials (OK) courses. John operates Windermere Stables, a private property in Towanda, KS. John's son Nick is following his father's steps and is currently competing at Preliminary and is also coaching some riders in the Wichita area.
